Routines … Just how stuck are you?

I realized a few days ago that I am trapped in my routine.

It’s no secret that I’m not a morning person.  I have never been and really don’t think it’s super necessary to strive to be! LOL  I know some “success gurus” say you must be a morning person and start your day at 5am, but I’m just not feeling it.  (And for that matter why would I let them get to set terms on my success? ~ Anyway that’s a different topic.)

BUT what I did realize is that when my morning routine is off kilter it sometimes puts me in a bad mood that can take quite some time to pull myself out of.  I had to really look at why…  It is because that is MY time to get my day set.  I have a routine that I like.  I don’t want to change it, but the last few months I’ve been cranky in the mornings because I couldn’t get back into my “normal routine” UGH…. We sold our house this spring, and I feel like I just can’t find my way back to how it used to be.

What I finally realized is that even though my morning routine worked then, it doesn’t work anymore….I was trying to hold tight to the old instead of making room for the new.

My old routine was pretty basic:  Wake up, coffee, get kids breakfast and visit with them before they head out for school, then another slow cup of coffee, notes on my to-do list for today, get ready (shower, meditate, breakfast etc. Here’s one of my favorite breakfasts btw.)

I haven’t had to adjust it much, but I’ve tried a new routine and it’s working well.  What I realized is I was stuck in the loop of what you resist persists, and man was I resisting!!!

It’s almost similar, I still get my time. It just looks a little different.  And now that I’m not resisting the change the mornings are going much smoother.

What are you trapped in?  What causes you unneeded stress or anxiety when maybe just a simple tweak could shift the energy around the situation?  Sometimes all we need to do is take a step back and think…ok what can I do to change this up just enough to make it work better?
