Don’t get caught up in fear and anxiety that “IT HAS TO BE DONE NOW!”
Have you ever been so stressed and flustered and frustrated because you have something that you feel really needs to be done right now? Even as I write this, I’m thinking I really should get a new blog post out… but 20 years ago I would have been freaking out, feeling pressure (from myself) because I was “messing up” or wasn’t perfectly executing the timing on the blog posts….feeling my my business would completely fail because “they say” these things have to be done at a certain time frame, and “they” regulate and rate you based on your performance…..
who the heck is “they” anyway
This whole situation plays right into the limiting belief of “You’re not good enough” which pretty much leads to “you’re not worthy of xxxx – fill in the blank”
Negative self talk, limiting beliefs, self defeating behavior are all things that I speak about often. It is like a highly contagious disease…..making ourselves feel terrible for really nothing at all. The world isn’t going to come to an end. Most likely everything will be just fine and no one (but you) will ever even notice that you weren’t perfect today.
*** please use common sense… I mean if you work in ICU then of course there are things that need to be done NOW! but I’m talking about normal day to day situations. Sometimes we feel the same urgency as if we’re in an emergency situation when really it is self imposed perfection and expectations around something that really isn’t a big deal.
In my book Embodied Grace: A Woman’s Path to Empowerment I talk about negative self talk and limiting beliefs: and how the Nasty Little Mean Girl can sound.
You know who I mean! She’s the mean girl that pops in your head and says things like:
“Can’t you do anything right?”
“Nothing works out for you.”
“Why do you think you’re good enough for that?”
“Do you see how fat your hips are?”
“You look terrible today.”
“Are you sure you can do this?”
“You’re too old to do that.”
(The Nasty Little Mean Girl is my term for the mean voice in my head that says things that are completely self-defeating.)
These kinds of negative beliefs can create havoc. Just like “It has to be done now” …they are all lies. Lies that keep us in chains of anxiety and stress. Start recognizing your thoughts. Notice limiting beliefs, negative self talk and self defeating behavior. Simply noticing it will help start the path to breaking the patterns and help you start finding new freedom.
