Sounds a little unrealistic, doesn’t it? When I say
“How can you make life a retreat?”
It sounds a little far-fetched… Especially if you have things to do…like work, or kids, or housework or a million other things you have to do. What else is on your list of things to do that make life suck?
I’m serious… I was just having this conversation with a client the other day. We were going over how to help her change her mindset about a few of her “non-negotiable” chores.
- and the list goes on, right?
So how can you make life a retreat?
My suggestion is to start your day in gratitude. Allow yourself some time in the morning to sit for 10-15 minutes…I like to start my day with a warm cup of coffee while I’m wrapped up in my robe. I sit and honestly just enjoy my coffee for a good 15 minutes before I do anything else. I’m grateful for the quiet and the savory coffee. I don’t force myself to go through a gratitude list or anything like that. I’m just grateful that I can be still and wake up with coffee. It’s that simple.
Next if you have chores that you absolutely must do, do them with joy! If you have to do the laundry, be joyful that you get to spend life with the people that wear the clothes. If you have to do dishes, enjoy the way the light shines and makes mini rainbows on the bubbles, and the warmth of the water and end result of shiny dishes! If you have to vacuum, put on your earbuds and listen to a podcast or music or meditation track.
You get to choose happiness in everything you do. It’s literally a choice.
I choose to be happy and make my life a retreat!
